I agree. All great bands have taken from what was around before them. Duran Duran have some similarities to Japan, Nirvana are similar to Joy Division. Music doesn't spontaneously appear from nowhere, it is a constantly evolving process and bands like Duran Duran took what was out there already and added their own twist to it.
